• Know exactly which toy will make their tail go nuts

• Cry a little when they’re at the vet—even if it’s just for shots

• Say “I love you” out loud… like, a lot

• Celebrate the little things (first swim, new trick, zero accidents!)

• Advocate for their health, safety, and happiness—always

And if you’ve done any of those things? You’re doing just fine.

As a pet parent to several dogs over the years—and now to Rocco, my service dog—I’ve learned that this role is equal parts joy, worry, mess, and magic.
You never know what’s coming.
You just know you’ll face it together.
